Three Kings Day in Puerto Morelos, Mexico! January 6th

Today is Three Kings Day!  It is the celebration of the Magi's arrival to the Nativity.

Children of Mexico leave their shoes out on the night of the 5th stuffed with hay to feed the camels of the coming kings.  Sometime in the night, the kings arrive to feed their camels and leave behind treats for the children in their shoes.

Rosca de Reyes
It's also the day to enjoy the Rosca de Reyes - a large wreath-shaped bread filled with dry fruits and a baby Jesus baked inside.  The person who gets the piece with the baby is then responsible for the Día de la Candelaria (February 2nd) party where tamales are traditionally served.

Each year on January 6th, Kings travel about town spreading candy and good cheer to the little ones in Puerto Morelos.  Keep an eye out for their trailer coming by!  After the church service ends around 6:30, all gather in front of the kindergarden (oceanfront, south of the Town Square) to break open a piñata
