Mexico To Enforce Law that Prevents Pets in Airline Cabins

[UPDATE: This is is a developing story. Click here for the update that was posted since this post was published.]

For those who fly with their animals to Mexico: Be aware that many U.S. airlines are beginning to enforce long standing Mexican laws that prohibit pets from flying in airplane cabins.  Pets will be required to fly in the hold area under the plane.

Airlines say that the changes are at the request of Mexican authorities.  However, critics say that the law is being misinterpreted and that the airlines are using it as an opportunity to charge extra for pets.

    Hi Amber ,

I had read your blog on no pets in the cabin and i had called united right away , as we are leaving for PM next sat . It was true , they would not let me bring my puppy , so i called air canada and they said they took dogs in the cabin still , so i cancelled my flight with United and re booked with Air canada , The only seats they had left was for first class , and coming back home i had to change my flight for two days later and fly throught toronto , with a crappy overnight layover , but i want my puppy with me this summer , so it was worth it , Today I got a call from aeroplan , and they told me that air canada is also now not allowing pets in the cabin , I leave in 6 days , and now they tell me and I dont know if I can even take her as cargo , They told me to call aircanada , and that it was probabblly better just not to take my puppy . My puppy is only 3 months old , we puposly bought a toy breed to bring her back and forth . Just thought I would let you know , here is a list of airlines no longer allowing pets .
