Animals of the Yucatan: Northern Tamandua

In my continuing interest to identify the wierd animals I've seen, but cannot name, I present the "Northern Tamandua".

Have you seen one of these?  Known as "Ahchab" in Maya, a Tamandua is a large ant eater that can reach 5 ft in length.  Its nocturnal and elusive -- so they are unusual to see.

Sorry to report that I saw one today -- on the side of the highway :(

But, it means that they are around and if you happen to be a night owl, you just may see one too.
