WEEKLY WORKSHOPS ARE BACK!!

Interested in Real Estate? Want to know more about owning/living in Mexico? Have general questions about visiting, living, working, or retiring here?

Join us for our weekly "Ask a Realtor" workshop!

Starting January 27th, we are meeting every Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the Mayan Riviera Properties offices throughout the high season. We will start with a short, informal presentation and then be open to answering any questions that you may have!

We'll be answering questions about: 

• Living, Working, & Retiring in Mexico
• Foreign Ownership in Mexico & the Security of Your Investment
• What to Look for in a Real Estate Agent in Mexico
• Info about Puerto Morelos
• And we will do our best to answer any questions that you bring along!

Join us!  If you haven't been to our new offices, it's a great chance to check them out!  We are located just off the square, very easy to find - see the OXXO on the square, across from the church? Go down the road between the OXXO and the church towards the mangrove (west, back towards the highway, away from the beach) and we are right there, on the southwest corner - white, two-story house with teal pillars!

The Workshop is free, very informal and a great way to meet some new people!  Hope to see you there!

PGA OHL Mayakoba Classic Golf Tournament in November 2013!

Remember that the PGA Golf Tournament, the OHL Mayakoba Classic, has been moved to November.

Thursday, November 14 to Sunday, November 17, 2013

This gives it a better, non-competing, weekend, so they are expecting the top-notch players to attend.

85,000 Hotel Rooms in Quintana Roo by the end of 2012

The governor of Quintana Roo, Beto Borge, was present at the inauguration ceremony of the Tourism Fair in Madrid, Spain. In his remarks, he provided some tourism statistics that I thought you might find interesting:

• Quintana Roo generates almost 50% of all tourism income made in Mexico.
• With the addition of 4,000 new hotel rooms in 2012, the total number of rooms in Q. Roo will be 85,000.
• In 2011, the Cancun Airport had 13 million passengers (is that coming and going??) & 3 million visitors arrived in Q. Roo on cruise ships.

"We Move Forward" Women's Retreat in Isla Mujeres

Just thought I would share and spread the news from Life's a Beach Blog:  A fantastic women's retreat is planned for March 8, 9, 10th!

Here's A Quick Summary: 

On March 8, 9 and 10 2012, a special 3-day International Women's Day Conference, We Move Forward, is taking place on Isla Mujeres. The conference is for women interested in life-long learning, personal and professional growth at all stages of life.  It is a well blended event that combines daily inspirational speakers with practical interactive workshops, movement sessions (yoga, pilates, batuka), a connection/networking session, local entertainment and a history lesson from a Mayan elder.

For a limited time, the event organizer, Retreats on Isla is currently offering reduced enrollment for WMF 2012! Women who register before January 31st will receive a $212 discount off the cost of the event. Proceeds from the event go to support local charities and sponsorship for local women who otherwise could not afford such an experience.

Being a quaint tropical island is part of Isla's charm, and with this comes limitations to the number of women it can accommodate during this busy time of year.  The event offerings are generous and economically priced so if your head and heart are telling you to register we encourage you to do so quickly.

Tomorrow!! Golf FORE Everyone! FREE Golf Event at Fairmont's PGA El Camaleon Golf Course!

The El Camaleon Golf course is home to the PGA Mayakoba Classic Golf Tournament, and they are hosting a "Golf FORE Everyone"  event tomorrow!

Golf FORE Everyone aims to create a fun-filled, diverse and educational program that teaches about the game of golf and its ideals. The program encourages active participation in the game as a participant and as a fan, and facilitates the integration of golf into the lives of all those within the community. Golf PARa Todos is a community program presented by the Mayakoba Golf Classic.

The inaugural installment of Golf FORE Everyone was held in October 2007 at El Camaleón Golf Club in Playa del Carmen. Golf PARa Todos is open to people of all ages, backgrounds and levels of golf skill or knowledge.

Mexico Taxi Project

I was reading the latest edition of the Riviera Maya Report and came across this great article in the New York Times: "To Alter Perceptions, Mexico Uses Candid Chitchat".

Mexico is developing a new website, The Mexico Taxi Project,with its own YouTube Channel.  Check it out!  They candidly capture tourist returning from their latest Mexico adventure during their taxi ride home.  Pretty Cool Stuff!!

Halloween & Day of the Dead 2011 in Puerto Morelos

Get out your Costumes!  Make your Altars!  It's a great time of year to be in Mexico!  If you are looking for where to find Halloween and Day of the Dead goodies --- Check out Cancun's Market 22 (Behind the Fireman's Station on Tulum & Uxmal)!!


Here is the rundown of local events:  (Details are still coming in -- so check back to this page for updates.)

• October 27th:  Day of the Dead Altar Contest.

• October 28th:  Halloween Festival and Costume Contest.  Puerto Morelos Town Square.  5 p.m.  Music, Dancing, Food, & Local Artist will also be there!  Kindly sponsored by The Little English Schoolhouse.

• October 29th:  Xcaret will have their annual Day of the Dead Parade on 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen.  Parade starts at 7 p.m.  Put on your best skeleton paint and be there to get organized at 6 p.m. if you wish to join in the parade!

• October 31st:  Children's Costume Parade.

• October 31st:  Cantina Habanero's Annual Halloween Party!  Dress to Impress -- There will be prizes!  Music and Fun starts at 8 p.m.

• October 30, 31 & November 1, 2:  Xcaret Day of the Dead Festival!  If you haven't been, this is definitely a "MUST-DO"!!!  We make a point of going each year.  They fill Xcaret with altars, poetry readings, theatre, local foods, flowers.  It is INCREDIBLE -- for adults and kids alike.  Check out their website link above for more info and the daily programs.

  Local Puerto Morelians:  Tickets are Free!  Check any local paper or radio station.  All of them are distributing the tickets (not being given through Xcaret).  Must present your credencial or FM3/2 to be eligible for the tickets.

Great Maps for getting around in Cancun or Playa del Carmen!

If you live in Puerto Morelos, finding your way around Downtown Cancun and Playa del Carmen can be quite daunting.  In Cancun the road signage is horribly confusing or non-existent.

If you are on vacation, you might want to find a great restaurant or explore.

Some time ago, I came across CancunMap.com.  They have GREAT maps -- with points of interest -- that are fantastic for finding your way around.  They have maps for Cancun (both Downtown & Hotel Zone), Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos, and most places up and down the coast!  All are recent editions so have really great, current information.  I've seen a lot of maps, and these are the best that I have come across -- so I thought I would pass it along...

Bidding Opens for the New International Riviera Maya Airport
